What's the difference between prefab and custom orthoses?

Some clinical trials report similar outcomes, such as pain reduction, when treating foot or lower leg conditions with prefab or custom orthoses.

Prefab orthoses may wear out quicker compared to custom orthoses due to the different materials used in each.

Prefab orthoses fit and function better with 'average' shaped feet.

Custom orthoses may fit better in a wider range of shoes due to their less bulky design, both orthoses work well in shoes with a removable inner.

Custom orthoses work better when specific custom modifications are required to improve foot function.

If you have private health insurance, your total out of pocket cost may be less with a custom orthosis if your health insurance doesn't rebate on prefab orthoses.
